the entourage effect and why the complete plant is better than its isolated parts"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>According to Aristotle, <strong>\u201cthe totality is more than the sum of its parts.\u201d<\/strong>The Greek philosopher\u2019s statement may well apply to the medicinal properties of plants, especially Cannabis, with regard to the concept of the entourage effect.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>And in fact, studies show that<strong> complete plant extracts <\/strong>prove to be more effective in health treatments than the use of isolated or synthetic cannabinoids.\u00a0<\/p>\n<h2>But, after all, what is the entourage effect?<\/h2>\n<p>Entourage effect is the<strong> synergistic relationship between all chemical compounds present in Cannabis.<\/strong>That is, it occurs when the complete extract of the plant is used (including all cannabinoids, terpenes, flavonoids, among other substances) and not just isolated parts.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>A clearly observed benefit is in the <strong>interaction between the two main phytocannabinoids THC and CBD.<\/strong>The combination of CBD and THC helps to reduce potential THC for?<\/strong><\/span><\/span><\/a><\/span><\/p>\n<p>In the entourage effect, the molecules not only modulate the potential adverse effects of some component, but also <strong>potentiate the therapeutic effects.<\/strong>.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>This <\/span><\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/pubmed.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov\/30258398\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\"><span><span>study<\/span><\/span><\/a><span><span style=\"color: #000000;\"> brilliantly compared groups of patients with severe and refractory epilepsy who used CBD alone to other groups with the same clinical picture, but who used the complete plant extract predominant in CBD.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>The results showed that<strong> a dose of at least 4 times higher of CBD alone is necessary, when compared to the complete extract of the plant, to reach the same therapeutic effects.<\/strong>.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>Furthermore, the incidence of adverse effects in the groups that treated
