Mariano Garcia

Licensed surgeon by the University of Barcelona in 1979, with 38 years of experience as an emergency physician in the field of occupational medicine. For the past 17 years, he has been dedicated to studying the Endocannabinoid System and prescribing therapeutic cannabis to his patients. In 2014, he founded Kalapa Clinic in Barcelona, Spain, the first medical consultancy in Europe specializing in medicinal cannabis. At Kalapa Clinic, he provides guidance on treatments with cannabinoid derivatives, conducts clinical research, and collaborates with an international network of doctors, scientists, and institutions sharing knowledge about endocannabinoids.

He served as the medical director of Kalapa Clinic from April 2014 to June 2022, when they no longer required his services. Additionally, for 9 years, he has been collaborating with Dr. Paola Pineda, the medical director of Grupo Curativa in Colombia. As a medical consultant at Cali Terpenes, he specialized in e-liquid formulation and terpene management. From April 2018 to 2020, he implemented a risk prevention plan for e-liquid consumption with electronic cigarettes.

He is a founding member of the Spanish Observatory of Medicinal Cannabis since its establishment in 2016 and also a founding member of the Clinical Association of Endocannabinology from its foundation in Barcelona in 2020 until 2023. Since 2018, he has been a member of the scientific committee of the Canna Foundation .

In March 2023, already retired, he decided to step out of his comfort zone and moved to Colombia, where he collaborates as a senior consultant with Grupo Curativa and continues clinical work with patients. Additionally, he devotes his time to the dissemination and training of colleagues in this field, as well as laboratory work.
